Stress and Emotional Eating

This is a biggie!! I find myself, at times, struggling with this as well. You are not alone. And unfortunately, stress can lead to some bad habits: Emotionally eating being one of them.

How many of you can relate to this? 🙋‍♀️!!!!! It's crazy, especially when I know what to do to combat it and I fall short.

I catch myself often, yet I still allow the behavior to go on. It's almost like having that annoying pimple and you know not to pop it, but you obsess about until you do. Or, you mindlessly pick at it because you know it's there and there's some sort of comfort and satisfaction in picking! Does this make sense?

Well here are some tips to help you when it comes to emotional and mindless eating especially in times of stress:

Recognize your triggers: Pay attention to the situations, emotions, or thoughts that tend to trigger your emotional eating. Being aware of these triggers can help you find alternative ways to cope.

Find alternative activities: Instead of reaching for food when you're stressed, try engaging in activities that can help you relax and unwind. This could include going for a walk, practicing deep breathing exercises, listening to calming music, or pursuing hobbies you enjoy.

Practice mindfulness: When you feel the urge to emotionally eat, take a moment to pause and check in with yourself. Ask yourself if you're truly hungry or if there is an emotional need that is driving your desire to eat. Mindfulness can help you become more aware of your body's signals and make conscious choices.

Create a support system: ( This is my favorite because you know you never alone in anything) Share your struggles and goals with trusted friends or family members who can offer support and understanding. Having someone to talk to can make a big difference in managing emotional eating.

Seek professional help if needed: I am always here for you!! If emotional eating and stress are significantly impacting your daily life, it might be helpful to reach out to someone who can provide guidance and support tailored to your specific needs.

Remember, it's okay to ask for help and take small steps towards healthier coping mechanisms. You're not alone in this journey, and with time, patience, and self-compassion, you can develop healthier habits.

I hope this helps and I want you know that you are not alone in this journey! Feel free to reach out to me if you need to.
